Installing the RM SmartCache Client on RM Comunity Connect 3 (or later)


Please read the instructions on this page before continuing. We recommend that you print them out for later reference.

  1. At a Community Connect 3 (or later) server on which your application packages are stored, log on as administrator.
  2. Run Internet Explorer and browse to this web page (http://admin.smartcache2.rmplc.co.uk/client/cc3install2.htm).
  3. Click on the "Download the Installation Program" link below.
  4. In the File Download window which appears, you are asked if you would like to open the file or save it to your computer - choose the Save button.
  5. In the Save As window, select Desktop and then choose the Save button.
  6. From the desktop, choose RMSCCInstall.EXE.
  7. In the WinZip Self-Extractor window, choose the Browse button.
  8. In the Browse for folder window, highlight Desktop and then choose the OK button.
  9. Back in the WinZip Self-Extractor window, choose the Unzip button. This will automatically unzip this self-extracting archive to a folder, RMSCCInstall, on your desktop.
  10. From the desktop, open the RMSCCInstall folder and then choose Client.bat. This will make a Windows Installer package called RMSmartC available for allocation to your workstations.
  11. Wait for the DOS screen to close.
  12. Repeat steps 1 to 11 on all servers on which application packages are stored.
  13. If you have not previously installed the RM SmartCache Client on your workstations, use the RM Management Console, Workstations option to allocate the RMSmartC package to all workstations from which you wish to be able to browse the Internet. If you have previously installed the RM SmartCache Client on your workstations, skip to step 14.
  14. Reboot all workstations.
  15. At a server from which you wish to be able to browse the Internet, log on as administrator.
  16. From the Start menu, choose Run.
  17. In the Open box, type MSIEXEC  /i  \\servername\RMPackages\Applications\RMSmartC\v2.0.0.0\RMSmartC.msi  /qb  ALLUSERS=1(where servername should be replaced by the name of the server on which your applications are stored) and then choose the OK button. Note: The installation routine takes only a second to run.
  18. You will be prompted to reboot the server. This is a necessary step to activate the RM SmartCache Client software on that server. You should reboot the server as soon as it is convenient.
  19. Repeat steps 15 to 18 at every Community Connect 3 (or later) server from which you wish to be able to browse the Internet (including the server on which your application packages are stored).
  20. Visit the Maintenance page on your RM SmartCache's administration website and set the RM SmartCache Security Configuration logging level appropriately.

Note: If you have a mixed Connect 2.4 / Community Connect 3 (or later) network, you must also follow the instructions for RM Connect 2.x networks by following the instructions at http://admin.smartcache2.rmplc.co.uk/client/cinstall2.htm.
